Lowest Measles Incidence Recorded in the United States

Measles incidence in the United States has reached its lowest point in history, with only 86 cases reported in the year 2000, primarily contracted outside the country, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The figure is 14% lower than that recorded two years before. Of those 86 cases, 62% are imported diseases – they correspond to Americans who have traveled to other countries or foreign travelers in the United States.

According to data presented in the "Mortality and Morbidity Weekly Report", the incidence rate has been below one case per million inhabitants for the last four years.
