Genetic Region Implicated in Obesity and Diabetes

Previous research has identified a region on chromosome 3 where there is surely a gene or genes involved in obesity, at least among white people.

The new study shows the existence of a possible relationship between genes located in that region of chromosome 3 and an increased risk of obesity in black people. Previous studies that have focused on this chromosomal region consider that the genes contained therein affect the way the body burns calories, as well as insulin sensitivity and the risk of type 2 diabetes.

For the authors, their study provides new evidence that some genes on chromosome 3 are related to the risk of diabetes.
